It’s time to re-book! We’re now halfway through term 1 and really pleased with the progress we have seen from the students. Every single person has made significant improvement this term and we are proud of our teachers and the effort and attitude of the students.
The team are PASSIONATE about teaching quality stroke and life-saving swimming skills! So remember that if you have any questions about the lessons or concerns with progress you need only call us for a chat – we are always available to help and advise!
Here we go….
Please action text messages from Duck and Dive Now you have been with Duck and Dive for a term, please know that SMS is our primary method of communication. It may, as in the case of this alert, direct you to a web page.
We only communicate for important operational announcements.
The Academy method Generally, we prefer small classes of 2 (and 3 when the level/skill set is deemed appropriate) but there may be occasions when we create a class of 4. This may be a one off during the student’s lesson or a regular class. Please understand that should this occur, it is for the benefit of the student and will align with their level requirements.
The Academy has strict assessment criteria designed to build the skills, strength and stamina of the students. We are in no rush to push the students through the levels and each level must attain a high level pass before moving up. Some of the students are either working towards or participating in competition and it is necessary to offer classes with applicable tuition.
Assessments will take place towards the end of each term and at such time a student may be moved up. This could mean a change in time or day and we will always try to accommodate your schedule but naturally it will depend on the availability.
Private Lessons These may be offered at our discretion and will generally be after 6.45pm. We will contact you if we need to discuss the requirements of your child.
Homework The team will be building a small library of videos some of which your child may be asked to practice at home.
This may apply to any child at any level and if we ask you to participate then the reason will be because there is an identified weakness that is holding the student back in class or to accelerate learning of a new skill.
The videos are short, easy to follow and to be repeated on a daily basis. The language and movement will be identical to the lesson so muscle memory and understanding by the student will be easy.
Housekeeping As mentioned in our recent SMS, the centre has a “take rubbish home” policy so…
No food should be consumed in the pool hall, you may feed your child in the reception area
Biscuits, chips, noodles etc that are messy and drop crumbs are discouraged
Consider healthy options: carrot/celery sticks, chopped apple or grapes
Take your rubbish home
Swim Caps Caps are mandatory for all students.
they keep hair out of the pool
they allow goggles to grip the head better
they prevent the transition of head lice, common amongst school age kids
they make you swim faster!
